A treasure among the pears, and classic variety of XIX century France. Occasionally encountered under the synonym 'Fondante des Bois', indicating both the melting texture of the ripened flesh and its origins as a chance seedling in the woods, we know it because it was a lucrative fruit culture indeed a century ago. Fruits are short turbinate, flesh dense and ample, juicy, syrupy and spicy when ripened. Harvest early September. Pollenizer: Comice or Bartlett. 750 hours. On OHxF 333.
