Hemskerk

Hemskerk

This apricot, long esteemed in Britain, bears (in various alternative spellings) the name of a Dutch town northwest of Amsterdam, though it is not recognized there by local citizens ... where there is no tradition of apricot growing! Our researches revealed that most of the supposed 'Moorpark' apricots in the Santa Clara Valley of the last century were in fact 'Hemskerk'. The same firm, dark orange flesh of Moorpark, more nearly round and evenly ripening from shoulder to tip and of greater productivity, better adapted for drying and canning than 'Moorpark', excellent as a dessert fruit. 900 hours. Mid - late July. On Citation.
