Readily recognized by tourists abroad as the multinational apricot variety, found in every market on the Continent at the beginning of summer vacs, this apricot is grown in south of France, north of Spain, Morocco, Algeria and is the exclusive apricot of the Swiss Valais. Associated with the river Rhone along its entire length from the Alps to the Mediterranean, it was born in the nursery of Gabriel Luizet at Ecully, then a farming village outside Lyon, in 1853. Fruits rather petite by today’s standards, skin entirely orange, flesh also, profusely juicy but somewhat fibrous, the definitive apricot flavor chez les Francais. Early July. On Citation.
