For many years, America's earliest commercial peach. Mayflower is valuable in California for its high eating quality, greater than any peach found in the supermarket in the same season, and elsewhere it remains the best early peach that can be grown. A century ago every fruit fancier knew this peach: large pale fruits with white semicling flesh, extravagantly juicy, but ripening all at once, as a commercial grower would like. Flavor rich among early peaches, high in sugar, but perishable. Probably from North Carolina, was also grown in France and Italy as the first peach of the season. Late blooming, avoids frost damage.
