Singular among Eastern nectarines is Mericrest, product of Elwyn Meader's breeding at University of New Hampshire. One of the few nectarines that have performed well both in the East and in the West, and produces the true, rich aroma of nectarine. Fairly winter hardy and with a thick skin that is capable of resisting fungi. Mericrest is about the only nectarine advised for planting on both coasts. Modest in size, flesh yellow, purple at pit, melting, freestone, excellent and productive. Early - mid August. 850 hours. On Lovell.
