An ancient, natural hybrid between a white-fleshed apricot and blonde cherry-plum (Prunus cerasifera), the resulting tree produces white-fleshed, white-skinned plumcots! The name in Farsi (shakar + pareh) translates to "sweetmeat" in English, of the sort usually provided guests at festive occasions. Rapid growth and starts producing in its first (or at most, second) year from planting; strongly alternate-bearing and ripens over a two- or three-week period. Our most productive of stone fruit varieties during "on" years, holds well on the tree once ripe. Skin fuzzy, white with pink blush on shoulder; flesh white, somewhat fibrous, acidulous, finely and characteristically aromatic like attar of rose, very juicy, clingstone. Foliage has characteristics of both species. Prune only to shorten branches, this bears fruit even from inside of tree. Grown for centuries in Iran. Pollenizer: any Asian plum. Season early July.
