Historically, nectarines have been more than just fuzzless peaches. The best and most typical nectarines demonstrate a pronounced taste of musk never found in a peach. ‘Stanwick’ is such a classic nectarine and appears in the ancestry of most present commercial varieties. Grown from a pit of a nectarine obtained in the markets of As Suwayda, southern Syria, in 1843 by the British Consul at Aleppo, and was sent on to Stanwick Park, Northamptonshire. Fruit deep green, slight purple flush; flesh greenish-white, purple around pit, dense, juicy; sweet, very rich and with pronounced musk aroma.
