An invaluable low-chill peach grown in southern California for generations. An invariably productive peach, originated at the University of California at Riverside breeding program and first offered in 1951, ‘Ventura’ remains the dessert-quality peach of lowest-chill requirement. It is the choice of fruit growers in the beach towns of the Los Angeles basin and southward to San Diego. Fruits yellow, almost covered with red, with high fuzz giving a rather dull finish. Flesh yellow, red around the pit, sweet and melting. Requires consistent irrigation in sandy soils, do not starve for water and thin rigorously. Season late July, early July in the south. 200 hours.
