The earliest of the fine Asian Plums, this comes from Italy, not Japan or California. The "smile of spring" marks the culmination of that season, and the first stone fruit varieties of the year. Fruits are large, abundantly produced, and benefit from early thinning. Skin is yellow, becoming orange when fully ripe, with rosy blush; flesh is firm, not very acid, quite juicy and sweet, yellow, clingstone ... a distinctive floral aroma completes this fruit's attributes. Comes a full month before 'Santa Rosa' and is valuable in all uses for Asian Plums. A staple of the early European fruit stalls, now available for the garden. A must for extending the fruit season in the home orchard. On Myro 29c.
