De Montfort

De Montfort

Regular price $32.00 Sale

While presenting the appearance of a drying prune, de Montfort is in actuality one of the finest of purple plums for the dessert. A seedling produced by Mme Ebert of Monfort-sur-Ille in 1822, it culture was spread throughout the Gironde and France beyond, when promoted by the nurseryman Prevost of Rouen late in that century. Elongated oval fruit, purple-black, flesh yellow, melting, very sweet with some suggestion of gage flavor. Particularly valuable as the earliest purple plum for the dessert, and reliably productive. Season end July. On Nemagard.
