Fei Tao, the "Fat Peach" because so very perfectly round in shape, is the most famous peach of north China. The classic fruit of the ancient Feicheng county of northwest Shandong province, whose annals of some 450 years ago speak of this variety, "famous for 100 Li from its place of origin" in the Yellow River delta. The definitive peach reserved for the Ming dynasty emperors, it is still the most popular variety in the Beijing markets.
