Highland

A modern pear, product of New York State Experiment Station, released in 1974.  Offered here because recommended for trial where fireblight is a concern.  Fruits resemble Bartlett, but deep green overlaid with a thin coppery russet.  Flesh combines the best qualities of its parents, Bartlett and Doyenne du Comice, having a melting flesh with a much reduced musk flavor, but very juicy.  Like Bartlett, will ripen on the tree, or on the kitchen table, without refrigeration ... but all fruits will then ripen simultaneously!  Mid October.  On Betulaefolia.
