The most famous peach in California a century ago, now nearly forgotten. This was the best of the Elberta type of peach grown in California. Yellow flesh, red at pit, melting, juicy, immensely productive. Shows some resistance to leafcurl. Requires thinning and an interior climate to perform at its famous best, the heat brings out aroma and a juicy flesh. Most canned "Elberta" freestone peaches of our youth were Early Crawfords.
