Not to be confused with Black Eagle, this "eagle" is a cherry native to the Canton of Basel in Switzerland, though by now both the variety and its reputation have spread far abroad in Western Europe.  A dark, black-red cherry of the soft, guigne type, Basler Adler ripens towards the end of the season, unlike most dark guignes, so is a valuable extension of the cherry season.  Lush, juicy, rich, productive.  Mid July.  On Mazzard.
