The other of the Luther Burbank cherries we offer, first made public by Burbank in 1900. 'Giant' is aptly named, a giant among cherries but unlike so many oversized fruits, this has real qualities as a dessert fruit that guarantees it a place it in our orchard and catalogue. Fruits are about double the size of 'Black Tartarian', dark purple, usually hang in singles on the tree, but plentifully produced. Flesh is dark red, firm and sweet; remains long on the tree once ripe and strangely, is generally left alone by the birds. Mid-July. On Mazzard.
