Any variety of peach is welcome in October, and Halloween is the best of the late peaches. Fruits are immense, skin yellow, lacking red color. Flesh is deep yellow, violet around pit, thick and meaty. For the best peach climates in California, though ripens suitably in warmer parts of Bay Area in rainless "quince season" Octobers. A production of Grant Merrill in Red Bluff, early 1960s, but not commercially successful because of preharvest drop. Fruits can ripen indoors if weather takes a chilly turn. Mid October. 650 hours.
