Venerable parent of all the great commercial nectarines. Le Grand was the first important variety in 20th century trade. Many of us will remember it, a clingstone when all nectarines were clingstone: enormous, deep yellow, mottled with some purple, superbly meaty, dense flesh, as much as 50% dark purple within. As a child of J H Hale peach, Le Grand has the same acidulous richness, with added true nectarine flavor. Remains outstanding for home orchards. 800 hours. Mid August. On Lovell.
