Red Baron

Regular price $32.00 Sale

About the largest of backyard peaches.  Noted less for size than for its ornamental qualities, as the flowers are double and a deep, shocking pink that allows 'Red Baron' to stand out in an orchard of other peaches.  A hybrid of Rio Oso Gem and a red-flowering ornamental peach by Herbert Swim at Armstrong Nurseries, ca. 1960.  The fruit is yellow, with deep red-black shoulder;  interior yellow marbled with bright red around the large red pit.  Flesh freestone, texture rather light, not dense, juicy and good acid-sugar balance.  Excessively productive and all fruits ripen at once, requires rigorous early thinning.  Grown in low-chill areas of Southern California.   Early - mid August.  450 hours.  On Nemagard.
