Iran’s most famous pomegranate, originally from the city of Saveh southwest of Tehran, and a favorite of the markets of the capital. Immense fruits, “size of a baby’s head” in the language of the old country, deep red, calyx closed. Arils dark ruby, seed within very small, resulting in high proportion of juice. Seeds hard. A favorite among Iranians in America, a memory of old Persia, though requires high heat to be at its very best. Fruit skin tender and sensitive to injury. Mid to late season, October.
