The most productive of the many named figs we offer. Sucrette, meaning a (hard) candy, is an appropriate traditional name for this natural sweetmeat. Planted for centuries in the south of France and adjacent Italy, where it has been known as Zuccherata. This is a variety local to the Cote d'Azur, seeming semispontaneous on the walls and in the gardens of San Remo, Ventimiglia and Hyeres, beloved of youths, ripening ever more fruits, morning after morning during the long summer, seemingly without end.

In fact Sucrette produces a single crop, lasting from late August to October, in immense quantities. Fruits are modest in size, skin is a bright green, much wrinkled when at its best, the flesh blood red, jam-like. A quick growing tree with dense, upright small branches.
